Building a Network: Advancing Natural Areas Management on a National Scale

While much of the Natural Areas Conservancy’s work is based in New York City’s local ecology, our organization is expanding our reach on a national scale with our Forests in Cities program. The Forests in Cities program was created in 2017 to promote and advance healthy forested natural areas in cities across America through science, management, partnerships, and communications.

Join us on November 16 at 6:00 p.m. to learn about our Forests in Cities program and hear how we’re collaborating with parks professionals from 12 cities to improve the management care of urban natural areas across the country. During this one-hour program, we will cover topics including: COVID-19 impacts on urban natural areas, high-level trends and trajectories for urban natural areas in the U.S., and unique perspectives from caring for urban forested natural areas in New York City and other major cities.

This event will be led by the Natural Areas Conservancy’s Forests in Cities staff: Dr. Clara Pregitzer and Sophie Plitt. Dr. Pregitzer is the Deputy Director of Conservation Science at the NAC and manages the Forests in Cities Program. Sophie Plitt is the NAC’s National Partnership manager and works in a dual role with the US Forest Service — coordinating research and sharing knowledge to improve the protection and management of forests across the country. This event will be held on Zoom and registration is required.
