Jamaica Bay Natural Areas Tour Series: Bike the Jamaica Bay Greenway!
Join Leslie Wright, NYC Regional Director of New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, and the Natural Areas Conservancy and Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy staff for a bike tour of natural areas along the Jamaica Bay Greenway. This event is close to full. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your reservation so we can open up spots to other guests.
Start in Canarsie Park and view the recently restored upland and coastal restoration areas. Continue along the Greenway as you take in views of Jamaica Bay and Canarsie Pol, an uninhabited island with stunning tidal wetlands and maritime forest. Ride on to Canarsie Pier, a prime fishing location and great spot for picnicking. Finally, make your way to the Shirley Chisholm State Park, Brooklyn’s newest and largest state park. We’ll hike and bike to the highest point in Brooklyn with stunning views of Jamaica Bay while learning about the former Penn and Fountain landfills that make up the park and its recreational amenities. We’ll finish the tour while enjoying its natural areas that local flora and fauna call home.
Bring your own bike! Mostly flat terrain with some inclines and hills. Some trails are unpaved. Bring lots of water, a hat, and sunscreen. Registration required.
The Jamaica Bay Natural Areas Tour Series is a partnership program between the Natural Areas Conservancy and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy (JBRPC). This program is generously supported by the JBRPC, a project of the Fund for the City of New York.
