Jamaica Bay Natural Areas Tour Series: Marine Park Ecology Walk and Ribbon Cutting
Join Natural Areas Conservancy staff and Mike Feller, Ecologist and Chief Naturalist of the New York Botanical Garden, for a natural history tour of Brooklyn’s largest park, Marine Park. The tour will follow a newly formalized 3-mile loop trail through the park’s 133 acre natural area. You’ll learn about the natural history of the site, the flora and fauna that live there, and the history of human use that has shaped the area — from Native American and Dutch settlement, to the transformation of the landscape in the 20th century from a wetland to a peninsula.
The tour will last approximately 2 hours. Please wear appropriate footwear for a walk, and bring enough water to stay hydrated.
The Jamaica Bay Natural Areas Tour Series is a partnership program between the Natural Areas Conservancy and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy (JBRPC). This program is generously supported by the JBRPC, a project of the Fund for the City of New York.
