Haunted Halloween Headlamp Hike

Grab your headlamp and join us for a spooky tour of Inwood Hill Park co-led by Natural Areas Conservancy ecologist Justin Bowers and Municipal Art Society docent Zack Rhodes. Please bring your own headlamp and/or flashlight, and any extras to share with those who might not have!

Inwood Hill Park contains the largest and oldest forest in Manhattan, which means this land has seen quite a bit of history, from Lenape hunting camps to the forts built by the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War to summer homes for wealthy Manhattanites.

On this tour, we’ll learn about the plant, animal, and ghost inhabitants of the park. We’ll see the forest around peak foliage season and observe wildlife during fall migration season. The park is a key stopover point for dozens of bird species. We’ll also learn about the ghastly story of Revolutionary War trumpeter Anthony Corlear, the haunted boathouses on the Hudson River, and even the park’s connection to Titanic.
