Van Cortlandt Park Forest Care Training: Trail Maintenance
The Natural Areas Conservancy and Van Cortlandt Park Alliance are teaming up to restore two acres of forest in the Northeast Forest of Van Cortlandt Park this year.
Learn the basics of trail navigation & maintenance during this walk. We will discuss and assess conditions in Van Cortlandt’s North East Forest, as well as engage in hands-on trail maintenance efforts.
Trail maintenance training will cover:
- •The use of park maps to navigate trails
- How to identify and assess trail conditions through a trail maintenance perspective
- Citywide Trails Team trail restoration techniques
- Corridor pruning in accordance with standard trail corridor dimensions
- Basic invasive species ID and removal
This in-person event is open to all, and is part of a series for the curious park lover and volunteer. Attend this and any or all of the in-person sessions, and learn what you need to know to care for the forest!
Registration is required to attend.
Training is appropriate for ages 13+. Anyone under the age of 18 must have adult supervision present throughout the training.
Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather. Bring water and a snack if you wish.
