Coming up is one of our favorite days of the year! June 7th is National Trails Day— an initiative developed by the American Hiking Society to bring awareness to trails and encourage connection with the outdoors and community. Below is a list of ten free events across the five boroughs that offer ways to get involved.
9 am to 12 pm | Staten Island | NYC Parks
Help the trails of Eibs Pond Park by cleaning and clearing corridors.
10 am to 1 pm | Staten Island | Natural Areas Conservancy and Greenbelt Conservation Corps
Join us for a guided hike on nature trails and lend a helping hand with forest restoration by removing introduced species.
10 am to 1 pm | Bronx | Van Cortlandt Park Alliance
This recurring volunteer day brings together the community to help maintain VCP’s Cross Country Trail.
10 am to 2 pm | Queens | Natural Areas Conservancy
Learn how to install check steps, a trail structure that improves access and mitigates erosion, along the trail at Alley Pond Park.
Starts at 11 am | Brooklyn | Marine Park Alliance
Enjoy views of Jamaica Bay on a hike along the Salt Marsh trail.
11 am to 12:30 pm | Staten Island | NYC Parks
Find solace in the sights and sounds of a tranquil woodland
11 am to 2 pm | Bronx | Urban Park Rangers
Enjoy a 4-mile hike that traverses the park east to west.
12 pm to 2 pm | Bronx | Bronx River Alliance
This guided walk will be led by historian Terrell L Armistead along the Bronx River. You’ll learn about the ecology and community histories of the Bronx River.
1 pm to 3 pm | Manhattan | NYC Parks
Explore rock shelters, woodlands and hike up to the overlook meadow for a view of the Hudson River.
1 pm to 3 pm | Queens | Urban Park Rangers
Take an adventure with the Urban Park Rangers on a lesser known trail in Alley Pond
