Ft. Tryon Park Trail Marker Installation Training

Join the Natural Areas Conservancy for a trail marker installation training at Ft. Tryon Park!

The NAC is actively recruiting existing Trail Maintainers to serve as Trail Marker Installation Captains as part of the Citywide Trail Team’s initiative to complete over 60 miles of trail marker installation by the end of June 2025. Trail Maintainers will be trained on trail marker placement, blazing backwards protocol to install trail markers and review corridor pruning techniques. Tools and materials for the training will be provided by the NAC.

If you are attending, please fill out this volunteer waiver. Note: Every attendee must fill out waiver. If you have others joining, please ensure they fill out the waiver above as well.

During this training you will learn:

  • How to identify placement of trail markers using backward blazing protocol
  • How properly install markers on trees
  • Proper pruning methodology to improve access of trail and visibility of markers

What you should bring:

  • A water bottle
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Long pants
  • Sturdy, closed toe shoes

If you have any questions about this specific training please contact Trails Technical Manager, Gabriel Cummings at gabriel.cummings@naturalareasnyc.org.
