The Power of Collaboration: Leveraging Partnerships To Promote Forests as a Natural Climate Solution in U.S. Cities

Cities are experiencing the impacts of climate change. The summer of 2021 was one of the hottest and wettest on record. Forests in cities mitigate the negative impacts of climate change. Yet, over 90% of cities across the U.S. cite limited resources to support their care. The Natural Areas Conservancy’s Forest in Cities Network includes urban natural area professionals from 12 metro regions — and focuses on advancing urban forest science and practice, and advocating for increased resources and support to promote and advance healthy forested natural areas in cities across America. Join us on October 20 at 4:00pm EST on Zoom to learn more about the Forests in Cities Network, the role of forested natural areas as a climate change solution, and the needs for sustaining healthy forests in cities.

The NAC’s Deputy Director of Conservation Science, Clara Pregitzer, and our National Partnerships Manager, Sophie Plitt, will lead a conversation that provides an overview of how the collaborations of this professional network have led to a new understanding of the value of forested natural areas in mitigating climate change impacts. We will debut new findings on the carbon stocks in urban natural areas and hear from representatives from other cities about this collaborative effort.
