2025 Honorees
Eric W. Sanderson is an ecologist, conservationist, and Vice President for Urban Conservation at the New York Botanical Garden, where he also directs the Center for Conservation and Restoration Ecology. He is the author of the bestselling book “Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City” and is currently working on the five-borough sequel, “Before New York: An Atlas and Gazetteer”. Prior to NYBG, Eric worked at the Wildlife Conservation Society / Bronx Zoo for nearly 25 years. Eric earned a Ph.D. in ecosystem and landscape ecology from UC Davis in 1998. He is a Guggenheim Fellow, a Cullman Fellow at the New York Public Library, a City Island musselsucker, and an Eagle Scout. Eric has been a member of the Natural Areas Conservancy Board since 2013.
