Jennifer Greenfeld
For nearly 30 years, Jennifer has been committed to the care of nature in New York City’s parks—including 5.7 million trees and 12,000 acres of forests and wetlands—and to connecting New Yorkers to these precious resources. Recently retired as Deputy Commissioner of Environment & Planning at the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, Jennifer led the city’s nature portfolio as an essential part of NYC’s park system. Her leadership prioritized staff recognition, professional development, and communication, while fostering a data-driven culture of technological innovation. Among her accomplishments at NYC Parks, she built a strong partnership between the agency and the Natural Areas Conservancy.
Before joining Parks, Jennifer worked for nonprofit organizations in San Francisco and Washington DC. She earned a Bachelor of Biology and Environmental Studies degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s in Forest Science from the Yale School of the Environment.
