If you’re a regular visitor to our website, you may have noticed a big change in the look and feel of things. We’ve been hard at work since last fall preparing for a completely new website design and user experience. Our goal? To improve your access to our research, tools, frameworks, and more! Whether you’re already a close partner or a first-time visitor, we’ve prepared a quick guide to help you access all the great information we have on forests and wetlands in New York City and nationwide.
We have a new page, Train the Next Generation, focused on our City University of New York (CUNY) internship program, our high school Student Urban Nature (SUN) program, and our soon-to-be-launched workforce fellowship. On that page, you can explore information about each of these programs and get linked to internship opportunities and requirements. Then, visit our Work with Us page to learn more about our values and what drives our mission at the Natural Areas Conservancy.
We have new information to share with you about our corporate partnership and Night for Nature gala sponsorship opportunities! There’s also a revised page that contains all of our reports and finances, so you can make an informed decision about your support and better understand the impact of your contribution.
Our volunteers and community members make our work possible! We have a new spot for learning about our Super Steward Trail Maintainer program with NYC Parks and what’s required of Trail Maintainers to advance in their natural areas leadership. We also would love for you to take a look at our page on connecting New Yorkers to nature, where in addition to volunteer opportunities we spotlight the lectures, park tours, and other community events that get New York City residents outside and deeply involved in their nearby forests and wetlands. You can also view our main Events calendar for more details and to register for specific happenings.
This site is made for you. In addition to easier access to the NYC Nature Map and our FIRST tool, we’ve carefully curated and made searchable our research and publications. You can also dig into information about our 19-city, nationwide Forests in Cities network and its accompanying Resource Library. For those focused on natural areas preservation and management in NYC, we also have more information on our Forest Management Framework, Wetlands Management Framework, and Strategic Trails Plan.
Welcome! Our revamped navigation menus on the top and bottom of the site give you quick links to more detail on who we are and what we do. From both the home page and these menus, there are easy and clear paths to get outside, get more involved, and explore NYC’s 20,000 acres of natural areas. Or, simply enjoy the beautiful photos of our vital and valuable forests, wetlands, and grasslands. You can even discover some hidden Easter eggs here and there! Check out our Donate page and see if you can find our sweet little seagull.
And if you can’t find something or have a question, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Finally, we’d like to thank our partners at Studio Simpatico for their absolutely essential work on the NAC’s new website.
